Why Us?
There is something about human beings that is above and beyond the animal instincts that program them to live in their environment. We don’t just live in nature, we control it and direct it to our own purposes, and we look for deeper fulfillment than Nature alone can give. There is something about us that somehow reflects the Mind behind creation itself.
This is the soul, which does not come from the evolution of matter but is directly created by God. However, this need not be seen as contradicting or overriding the laws of nature once we understand that "matter" is inherently related to the power of mind which organises it, and "mind" is the power that controls and directs matter. For life before man, the control and direction is provided through the whole environment of the earth and the universe under the Mind of God. But when the unfolding evolution of living things reached the peak and the limit of purely material control under God's creative law, the next step, which was always in the plan of God for creation, called for the creation of an individual mind with the spiritual power of self-control. This was the first human being, a living person who is both body and soul. This is why we each human being has an infinite dignity because they are made in the image and likeness of God.
