Sacraments and Prayer

The sacraments are essential to Christ's continuing 'Environing' of mankind. The use of picture, symbol, rite, is necessary for Man because he is a spirit enwrapped with the flesh. Christ has a living relationship to his body, the Church, like a vine to its branches. He uses times and places, matter and words to communicate his Life to us, to commune with us.

Jesus Christ who in person fulfils the Unity Law, remains according to that same wisdom always present in the world most especially through his real and personal presence under the appearances of bread and wine in the Eucharist. The same eternal Word who was made flesh in Bethlehem died on the Cross and rose from the dead is truly present - Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity - in the Eucharistic sacrifice: the Mass.

Because God's love is the 'sunshine of our souls' it is natural for us to immerse ourselves in it, for "in Him we live and move and have our being"(Acts 17:28). Praying for men is like swimming for fish, and flying for birds.
